Obstructing charges filed after episode at apartment
A local man and woman were both arrested and jailed following an incident Friday evening, May 12, at a Jackson apartment where they allegedly refused to cooperate with and respond to Jackson Police officers who were investigating a possible domestic-violence incident involving them.

Police report they have charged both Angel Thacker, 27, of 233 Savageville School Road, Jackson, and Alton A. Carter, Jr., 28, of 1747 Big Rock Road, Jackson, with misdemeanor-level counts of Obstructing Official Business, as a result of the incident at Apartment 611 at the Holly Hills Apartments on Holly Hills Drive in Jackson. Both were also reportedly wanted on probation violations and Thacker was also wanted on a warrant from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

Jackson Police officers were called at 9:34 p.m. to the Holly Hills Apartments where there was the report of a possibly violent and physical fight in Apartment 611, which was occupied by Thacker and Carter. Officers reported they could hear people inside the apartment, but received no response when they knocked on the door and also declared their presence and reason for being there. At one point, police said Carter was seen opening and shutting a window.

Probation officers from the Jackson County Municipal Court were called to the scene to assist because of the alleged probation violations. However, further efforts to get the suspects to respond failed and attempts to enter with a security key failed as did an attempt to kick in the door.

Entry was finally achieved with a battering ram and Carter and Thacker were both found in a bedroom and arrested. Carter had scratches on his face, but denied any incident of domestic violence had occurred and claimed there had been only yelling. Apparently, the pair failed to respond to officers because they were aware of Thacker's warrant and that contact with police would likely result in her arrest.
