At the end of the Jackson City Council meeting of July 26, Council President Ron Speakman said he had two comments to make. The first was that the City of Jackson, the City of Wellston, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office should get together to determine how the sheriff's office can do all dispatching for itself and for the two cities. In a rough estimate, Speakman said this would save a minimum of $250,000.
Speakman then suggested each member of council, including himself, donate their pay for council service, or a portion of it, back to the city to be used for recreation since additional funds for recreation programs are needed. If all council salaries were donated back to the city, a total of about $30,000 would go to recreation.
"That's it," said Speakman and the meeting was adjourned.
